Fixed-frequency Ring Cyclotron (fRC)

An indispensable cyclotron that accelerates uranium
Image of fRC

The fixed-frequency Ring Cyclotron (fRC) is the second ring cyclotron at the RIBF, which is indispensable to accelerating uranium.

When uranium is accelerated up to 350 MeV per nucleon, the fRC that is placed between the RRC and the Intermediate-stage Ring Cyclotron (IRC) is used. This integration has enables us to produce the world’s most powerful heavy ion beam at 80 kW.

The specifications of the fRC

K-value 570MeV
Diameter 10.8m
Weight 1,500 tons
